Signing Day Breakdown Part 2: Linebackers
This is part 2 of a multi-part series where we here at Blue-Turf.com will take a closer look at the Boise State 2017 recruiting class. Blue Turf recruiting analysts will breakdown Boise's recruits position by position to help us learn more about these newest members of the Bronco family.
A changing of the guard begins this spring for the Boise State linebacker position. Ben Weaver and Tanner Vallejo held down starting positions dating back to the Chris Petersen era. Some years the Boise State defense was rebuilding, sometimes they returned a strong unit. Regardless, Vallejo and Weaver were mainstays at LB for 4 seasons. That will be tough to replace, especially with Darren Lee joining them on the list of graduates.
Fortunately, there is proven talent waiting for their turn. If healthy, Joey Martarano and Leighton Vander Esch figure to be the opening day starters. Soon-to- be Sophomore Tyson Maeva saw extended action with Vallejo sidelined with an injury, especially against Air Force. Blake Whitlock also brings experience back at that position.
