The Boise State Men's basketball team capped off their 2012-2013 season Saturday at Taco Bell Arena with a 69-65 win over the San Diego State Aztecs.
Boise State's 9-7 conference record is a big improvement over last seasons 3-11 mark. Last season, the Broncos first in a tough Mt West Conference, saw a scrappy, young Bronco team that lost a lot of close games. Now this season while still young it's very apparent that head coach Leon Rice and staff has done a very good job of teaching their still young team what it takes to win as the Broncos are now winning the majority of those close games.
Last season the Broncos posted a 13-17 overall record while this year they are already much improved with a 21-9 record with the Mountain West Tournament yet to play. The Broncos will roll into Wednesday's tournament as a five seed and face the four seed, last Saturday's opponent, San Diego State Aztecs. Boise State defeated the Aztecs for the first time in five tries last Saturday 69-65 led by the scoring of two of the conference's leading scorers Derrick Marks (17ppg) and Anthony Drmic (16ppg).
The Mountain West Tournament which runs March 12-15 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas Nevada should prove to be a very entertaining tournament with as many as five Mountain West teams projected to make the cut on Selection Sunday when the field of 68 is announced March 17th at 6pm on CBS.
And according to Yahoo Sports expert Brad Evans' 'Big Board' the Broncos will be a solid 11 seed for the NCAA tournament which kicks off March 19th.
