Byrd named to Remington Trophy watchlist

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State center Thomas Byrd became the most recent member of the Bronco football team to receive preseason recognition for his on-field achievements, Thursday (Aug. 20), as he was named to the preseason watch list for the 2009 Rimington Trophy.
The 10-year-old Rimington Trophy honors the top NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision center in the country. It is named for Dave Rimington, who was a first team All-American center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982. The trophy winner will be honored at the Rimington Trophy Presentation banquet at the Rococo Theater in Lincoln, Neb. on Jan. 16, 2010.

Byrd (5-11, 282), a sophomore from San Pablo, Calif. (McClymond HS), is one of 43 players named on the preseason watch list. As the Broncos' starting center in 2008, Byrd helped Boise State record 288.5 average passing yards per game, while only allowing 13 sacks on the season. He also helped lead an offense that scored 37.6 points per game and tallied 440.8 yards per game last season.
