BOISE, Idaho - A career-high 23 points from Tyson Degenhart led a bounce-back effort from Boise State Saturday evening as the Broncos cruised to a 76-60 victory over San Jose State to get back in the win column in Mountain West play.
The win was Boise State’s (18-5, 9-1 MW) 10th-straight over San Jose State (7-15, 0-10 MW), which fell to 0-20 all time when playing against the Broncos on the road.
With the score tied 8-8 early in the first half, Degenhart went on a solo 8-0 run in just over a minute, including a pair of and-one plays to double his team’s score. The Spartans drew back to within three before the freshman went on another 8-0 run in the midst of 14-straight points toward the end of the half, and the Broncos entered the break up 40-26.
Degenhart, who was named MW Freshman of the Week for a league-leading fifth time this past week, shot 9-of-14 from the floor and 3-of-5 from downtown to record the second 20-point outing of his career. His eight rebounds also set a career high.
Boise State opened the second half on a 10-0 run, to which San Jose State responded with nine-straight of its own, cutting the lead to 50-35 with 15:18 remaining. Over the next five minutes, six different Broncos scored during a 19-4 run to build a 29-point advantage, the largest of the night for Boise State.
Abu Kigab recorded his second double-double of the season, racking up 18 points and 10 boards to go along with a career-high five steals. The forward now has four-straight games in double digits, tied for his longest streak this season. His career-high five steals helped Boise State create 30 points off of 19 San Jose State turnovers.
Marcus Shaver, Jr. was the third Bronco in double-digits with 14. Shaver has scored in double figures 17 times this season.
The Broncos went 14-of-16 at the free throw line (.875), tied for the best performance of the season. Boise State has gone at least 70% from the free throw line in each of its last five games.
The game was just the third at home in 2022 for Boise State, who played tonight in front of a season-high crowd of 10,456.
After two games in three days, Boise State will be off until Friday (Feb. 11), when it hosts UNLV. Tipoff is set for 9 p.m. MT and will be televised on Fox Sports 1.
