Boise State routs Texas Southern, 81-63

BOISE, Idaho (AP) Derrick Marks had 16 points and eight rebounds as Boise State defeated Texas Southern 81-63 Sunday in the season-opening contest for both schools.
Kenny Buckner scored 12 points and Anthony Drmic and Ryan Watkins added 11 apiece for the Broncos.

Raymond Penn scored 25 points and Omar Strong added 11 for Texas Southern in the first game as Tigers' coach for Mike Davis, the former head man at Indiana and Alabama-Birmingham.
Boise State used a 21-4 spurt over a six-minute span of the first half to take a 20-point lead. Marks began the run with two free throws, and a three-point play by Buckner boosted the Broncos' lead to 33-19. A three-point play by Watkins completed the surge and made it 41-21 with 3:33 remaining in the half.
The Broncos led 49-30 at halftime and led comfortably the rest of the contest. Boise State's lead topped out at 26 points.
