Boise State Announces Five Nonconference Games

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State men’s basketball will open the 2020-21 season Friday, at No. 17 Houston in the first of five scheduled nonconference games. The Broncos are also set to take on Sam Houston State, BYU, Santa Clara and Loyola Marymount over the next month.

The showdown against the nationally-ranked Cougars marks the first time Boise State faces a top-25 opponent in its season opener since the 2000-01 campaign began at No. 17 Cincinnati. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT/1 p.m. MT and will be available on ESPN+. Boise State holds a 1-0 lead in the all-time series, claiming a 75-73 overtime win in the 2014 Las Vegas Classic, before going on to capture the Mountain West regular-season title that year.

The Broncos will remain in Texas to take part in the Southwest Showcase on Sunday (Nov. 29), at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, where they will face Sam Houston State at 1 p.m. CT/noon MT. The meeting is just the second all-time between the two schools and the first since 1987.

After jumping into Mountain West play for two home games against New Mexico (Dec. 3 and 5), the Broncos head back on the road to play Dec. 9 at BYU. The game is a return trip from the Cougars’ visit to ExtraMile Arena last season, a 72-68 overtime win for Boise State. Last year’s meeting was the first in the series since 2008.

The two remaining nonconference games on the schedule pit the Broncos against two more teams from the West Coast Conference. Boise State hosts Santa Clara Dec. 15, and Loyola Marymount Dec. 22. The game against Santa Clara is the first since 1989. The visit from LMU marks the sixth meeting in the last seven years, rekindling a series that took a one-year hiatus last season.

Mountain West play is slated to resume for the Broncos Dec. 31, at San José State.

Boise State is working to add two more nonconference games to fill out a 27-game schedule, the maximum number of contests allowed this season.

Start times and viewing information will be announced at a later date.
