Bachmeier gets the nod, will start against Florida State
Boise State will start the season next Saturday against Florida State with a true freshman at the QB position for the first time since the Broncos moved up to the FBS level in 1996. Boise State head coach, Bryan Harsin told the media Saturday following the Broncos final fall scrimmage that true freshman, Hank Bachmeier would be the starter August 31st in Jacksonville against Florida State.
“Hank earned it,” Harsin told the media Saturday after the final fall camp scrimage “It wasn’t given to him. He made throws, he completed passes, he did things in the pocket and he made decisions out there that we want to see. And whether a freshman, senior, doesn’t matter, those are the things that we’re looking for at that position.”
Bachmeier beat out redshirt sophomore Chase Cord and senior Jaylon Henderson for the starting job. Cord was the primary backup to Brett Rypien last year before going down with a torn ACL four games into the season.
