Alston Awarded Conference Honor

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Derrick Alston, Jr. was named the Mountain West Player of the Week after leading Boise State back into first place in the conference standings. Alston averaged 24.5 points per game and stepped up when the Broncos needed him most in a sweep over Utah State last week. The award is Alston’s second of the season and third of his career.

The redshirt senior started the crucial series off with a flurry. Alston scored 18 points in the first half of the opener, Wednesday. He finished with 26 points, including three free throws in the final 40 seconds to seal the 79-70 victory.


Alston returned to center stage Friday, this time making his biggest mark in the second half. He scored 14 of his 23 points after halftime, including scoring each of Boise State’s nine points during a 9-2 run that put the Broncos on top and they never trailed again in an 81-77 win.


For the series, Alston shot 47.1 percent from the floor, 46.2 percent from three-point range and 91.7 percent from the free throw line. In addition to the scoring output, he averaged 2.5 assists and two rebounds per game.


Alston and the Broncos (18-4, 14-3 MW) take on No. 25 San Diego State (17-4, 11-3 MW) in the final road trip of the regular season.
