BOISE, Idaho - Monday proved to be a day full of individual recognition for the Boise State football program as head coach Chris Petersen was named semifinalist for a national coaching award, while quarterback Kellen Moore also received national and conference honors.
Moore Named WAC Player of the Week...
On Monday Moore was named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week following a record setting performance on
Saturday (Nov. 6) against Hawai'i. Moore completed 30-of-37 passes for a career-high 507 yards and three touchdowns in the Broncos 42-7 win over the Warriors. After missing on his first pass of the game, Moore
completed 19 consecutive throws in the first half. With his three touchdown throws Moore also became the school's all-time leader in career touchdown passes with 85.
Petersen and Moore Honored by Maxwell Football Club...
Moore and Petersen were both also recognized with some of college football's best by the Maxwell Football Club, Monday, each being named to semifinalist lists for postseason awards. Moore has been selected
as a semifinalist for the 74th annual Maxwell Award, which honors the top Football Bowl Subdivision player each season. Moore is one of 16 semifinalists for the 2010 Maxwell Award; and one of 12 quarterbacks named as a semifinalist.
Moore currently leads the nation in pass efficiency rating (192.38) through eight games this season. He has completed 155-of-216 passes for 2,372 yards, 21 touchdowns and just four interceptions.
Voters will narrow the Maxwell Award semifinalists down to three finalists on Nov. 22. The winner will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 9.
Petersen was also recognized by the Maxwell Football Club on Monday as one of 15 semifinalists selected for the 2010 Joseph V. Paterno Award for Coach of the Year. The first annual Paterno Award honors Penn State head coach Joe Paterno's persona, based on success on the football field, in the classroom and in the community.
Petersen has led Boise State to a perfect 8-0 record this season and a current No. 4 national ranking in the BCS. The Broncos opened the season with the highest BCS ranking in school history at No. 3.
Earlier this season Boise State also reached No. 2 in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches polls; marking the highest national ranking in any poll in program history.
Three finalists for the Paterno Award will be announced on Dec. 6 (Monday). The winner will be selected Dec. 18 (Saturday).
