Ford adds new offer, schedules two trips
Deon Ford has been in contact with a number of colleges since September 1st, the first day of the fall contact period. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound athlete from Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) High took time out to update his recruitment with AztecSportsReport.com.
"I just received a scholarship offer from the University of Nevada," he said. "That is a school that I didn't really know much about until the recruiting process. I wasn't even aware that they won a WAC Championship last year. It's a nice offer.
"I have set up my first official visit with San Diego State for when they play Utah this coming weekend and I am going to UTEP when they play Tulane. Colorado State wants to trip me out there sometime in December."
An all-league selection last season, Ford hauled in 24 receptions for 400 yards and five touchdowns. He also recorded 56 tackles, three sacks, one interception and seven pass break ups on defense.
"Nevada offered me as a wide receiver," he said. "San Diego State said I would be a defensive player if I went there. One game last year I played defense all game so San Diego State asked for that tape from my coach. My written offer from them should be coming in soon after they evaluate that."
Ford has caught eight passes for 92 yards so far this season. He is also playing linebacker.
"We had a quarterback problem the first two weeks so we moved [San Diego State commitment] Vincent Browne to quarterback for this week," Ford explained. "He is a good passer and he can move around and everything so it should be a good improvement. We play Bishop Amat."
