Rancho Cucamonga athlete likes the Beavers

The truth of the matter is, the position you excel at in high school might not be your best position at the college level. Some prospects bristle when they hear this, but that's not the case with Deon Ford. The swift 6-foot, 196-pound athlete from Rancho Cucamonga High School in California is a fantastic wide receiver, no question. But Ford knows his college future may be on the other side of the ball, so he's been working hard this off-season making the transition.


"Right now, I've been doing a lot of passing leagues," Ford said. "I'm also learning how to play defensive back. A lot of people are looking at me to play safety, so I want to be the best that I can be."


At the current moment, Ford's recruitment hasn't been hitting him too hard. "There's not a lot of recruiting going on right now, but during the off-season I've received an offer from UTEP and Oregon State has verbally offered me too," Ford said. "That's about it right now. But I'm also hearing a lot from the Pac-10, like Cal and ASU, but I'm open."
